Aristotle's Criticism of the Odyssey

1. What claims about T he Odyssey does Aristotle make?             Aristotle claims that the plot/substance of The Odyssey can be summarized in a brief manner; he says that the story is actually quite simple. In just a few lines, Aristotle summarizes the basis of the Odyssey. Aristotle also says that "the rest is episode" meaning that the details of The Odyssey  were added to create a sense of drama in the story. 2. How did you react to Odysseus' situation, Telemachus's situation, and Penelope's situation? Why might you want to see them resolved in "the episodes" that Aristotle references?             Odysseus, Telemachus, and Penelope's situations were all very unfortunate. Odysseus had been attempting to return home for years, but wasn't able to find his way quickly due to many obstacles. Telemachus was "fatherless" and people kept saying his father was dead, he also needed to protect his mother from potential succe...

Research paper: More research

What topic are you most passionate about? List works/texts you plan on using for your project. Research and list modern texts from the same culture/ civilization. Generate a list of questions you will be using for your research and reading.             The culture that I am most passionate about researching is Puerto Rican literature. I am planing on using some of the works created by Rene Marques in my research project because, he is one of the most well known and established Puerto Rican writers. In particular, I plan on using Rene Marques' "La Carreta" because it depicts Puerto Rico's poor economic state and why many Puerto Ricans moved to the U.S. I also plan on using some works by Antonio S. Pedreira because, he wrote about life in puerto Rico and how it changed after it had been under control of the U.S for over 30 years. Some modern works of Puerto Rican literature include, having Rene Marques' play "La Coretta" be performed as an off broadway pl...

Research Paper Topic

What culture would you like to research for your research project? Explain why. What is this culture's cornerstone text?             The culture that I would like to research for my project is Puerto Rican literature. I would like to research Puerto Rican literature because, their literature consists of their memories that have been written down over the years. Although I cannot find what the cornerstone text in Puerto Rican literature is, there are many important writers/ authors. For example, Jose de Diego wrote about Puerto Rico's dream of independence.

Research Project: Reinventing the Cannon

What are 2-3 civilizations/ cultures whose literature you would want to research? Pick the one you are most interested in and explain why.             I would like to research either African, Polish, or French literature. However, the one that I would be most interested in researching is African literature. This is because, many stories in African culture were passed down verbally, meaning they were told through stories. Another reason why I'm interested in researching African literature is because, I don't know much about it and I believe it would be beneficial to learn about.

Development

What are at least 3 strengths that you posses? What are 3 major or longterm goals you have? What are 3 areas or skills that you would like to improve on?             Three strengths that I posses are being hard working, creative, and determined. I have several goals in mind for the future, these include, graduating with a high GPA, to travel around the world, and if possible, pursue a career in music. Finally, three skills/areas that I would like to improve upon are, beginning my assignments in a timely manner (to not procrastinate too much), to communicate with my teachers more (ask for help when needed), and to become more confident in my own work. How do you plan on achieving these goals, and working on these skills? What's in your way of achieving these goals? How can you be cleared of this obstacle?             In order to achieve these goals and work on these skills I have to work extremely hard. If I put in a lot of ...
